Ammar's Journey

In Syria, I started acting in the series ‘Bread and Salt.’ After that, I immediately began writing and wrote a play called ‘Mars 2050.’ I still haven’t finished it, not because of anything, but I’m still looking for a sweet ending. Since then, I started writing for television, radio, theater, and cinema programs.

While I was there, I worked as a bank employee, but I continued to write and also participated in a number of English-language theater productions.

I decided to become a stand-up comedian after receiving advice from one of my dearest friends and lifelong companions, Abu Al-Jood (whom you don’t know, and I won’t introduce you to because I haven’t consulted him on the matter yet). I also participated in a series of acting workshops with one of the most important…

In 2009, I came up with the idea for a small and delightful animated series called ‘Microphone Stand’ (موقف ميكرو). I wrote it and recorded the voices for the characters. ‘Microphone Stand’ continued for approximately 42 episodes from 2010 to 2016, and all of its episodes are available on YouTube.

2012 was a significant year for me. I wrote the children’s series ‘Mansour,’ which was one of the most important children’s shows in the Gulf region during that time. Additionally, I was part of the writing team for the first Arabic version of ‘SNL’ called ‘SOL’ at that time. It was a very enjoyable experience,…

In that same year, 2012, I started doing stand-up comedy. I got on stage and delivered 20 minutes of laughter to the audience, but only 5 times… The idea had me hooked from the very first time I tried it, and from that day on, I started looking for places to perform stand-up comedy in…

In 2017, I participated in a stand-up comedy workshop in Arabic at “Dubomedy School” with my dear professor, brother, and friend, the Emirati comedian Ali Al Sayed. Thanks to this workshop, my eyes were completely opened to the world of stand-up comedy, and I truly understood what I needed to do and where to start.…

After the stand-up comedy workshop with Ali, I started to appear as a comedian and auditioned for Comedy Central, which is considered the most important comedy channel in the world. They chose me, and I appeared on the same show, ‘CC Presents,’ which I had seen featuring all my comedy heroes, including Louis C.K., but…

I worked a lot on my comedy career and seized every opportunity or avenue to perform on stage. I participated in Arab events featuring singers and dancers, took part in festivals and faced some tough times. I even performed stand-up comedy at a dinner event for the Egyptian Writers Club! Despite the challenges and the…

It was a challenging year. It started with COVID-19, and I got stuck in the Netherlands due to airport closures for six months. Eventually, this led me to make the decision to leave Dubai permanently and move to live with my family in the Netherlands. But the silver lining was that the Shahid platform asked…

I started to see some relaxation in the COVID-19 regulations. I conducted a stand-up comedy workshop online for a group of students. Additionally, I began the first comedy tour for an Arab comedian in Europe, along with Saad Al-Ghaafri and George Al-Ain. The tour was very successful, and we performed in Vienna, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels,…

I started this year with the loss of my cousin, my friend, and my little brother, Mohannad Daba. Mohannad was my partner in writing and planning many projects, some of which came to fruition and others didn’t, but he was the voice in my head, the support, and the constant companion by my side. But…
